small flame bullet San Francisco Burlesque Showcase
Tease-O-Rama Send-Off & Fundraiser
Sept. 20th, 2003

San Francisco, CA - August 18, 2003 - Spend an evening of feathers and sequins at the first ever San Francisco Burlesque Showcase, September 20th at Broadway Studios. With a combined cast of over 50 performers, this cabaret-style show assembles an impressive array of Bay Area talent including dance troupes and solos, live music, comedy and vaudevillian antics. It's a grand send-off and fundraiser for those performers heading down to L.A. for Tease-O-Rama, the big burlesque event of the year.

Two performances are scheduled for the night, both featuring The Devil-Ettes, Hot Pink Feathers, Dane's Dames, MC Kitten on the Keys, The Cantankerous Lollies, San Francisco's Famous Burlesque Orchestra,Kellita,Miss Eva von Slut, Harlem Shake, Kitty Kitty Bang Bang, The Original Fat Bottom Revue, Black and Blue Burlesque, Fifi le Freedom, Rococo Risque and more. After the second show, there's dancing and carousing until last call.

Interest in saucy stage shows is on an up-swing these days. Home-grown burlesque shows are running in cities across the country with new troupes forming all the time. And in recent years, revivals of the Bob Fosse hits Chicago and Cabaret have received a warm welcome both on Broadway and the big screen.

The burlesque of today captures the glamour and charm of days gone by with a distinctly modern flair. Performances are inspired by styles both old and new from retro speakeasy cool to edgy punk rock hot. Shows now draw a mixed crowd, while audiences of the past were typically male. And behind the scenes, the troupes and events are largely organized and run by women.

This event is a joint effort of Baby Doe, Douglas Good and many volunteers. Baby Doe is one the Tease-O-Rama founders and creative force behind the Devil-Ettes - for more information please visit www.teaseorama.com and www.devilletes.com. Douglas Good is the producer of Cabaret Verdalet, a retro event and stage show.
